How to Connect iPhone 8 to 2018 Mercedes-Benz Models

Pairing Instructions for iPhone and Mercedes-Benz Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth®

Although the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8+ are just about a month old, they’ve already been selling quickly and appearing in more and more places. If you’re one of the thousands of people who have already purchased the newest iPhone, you’re probably already using it for everything from text-messaging, to music streaming.

One of the more complex recent trends in automotive design has been manufacturers developing and branding their own “infotainment systems” in vehicles. On one hand, it’s pretty great how many tasks your car or suv is able to accomplish these days without a smartphone distracting you.

On the other hand, many of these systems aren’t as intuitive or user-friendly as your smartphone’s iOS or Android OS. Although the Mercedes-Benz COMAND® system is among the best in the industry, it lacks the local data and familiar touches of your smartphone’s operating system.

This is where CarPlay comes in.

What is Apple CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay is an interface that allows you to access important smartphone applications in a reduced-distraction way through your Mercedes-Benz vehicle’s infotainment system. These applications include popular necessities like your phone, messages (read aloud by SIRI), and Apple Maps. They also include entertainment apps like Audible (audio books), Podcasts, and Pandora streaming radio.

How do I Set Up CarPlay on My Mercedes-Benz?

The best news is that CarPlay is extremely easy to set up on your 2018 Mercedes-Benz. Here’s a quick video Mercedes-Benz has put together to walk you through the easy 1 1/2 steps.

Once your Apple iPhone 8, or Apple iPhone 8+ is connected to CarPlay, you’ll have all of the entertainment from your smartphone with you, as well as the communication necessities. Best of all, your phone will be charging the entire time it’s connected.

How Do I Pair My iPhone 8 to My Mercedes-Benz Using Bluetooth®?

If you’re satisfied with the Mercedes-Benz COMAND® interface, or don’t care to use your smartphone for any purpose besides phone calling in your Mercedes-Benz, you may opt to set up a wireless connection from your iPhone 8 to your Mercedes-Benz using Bluetooth®.

To pair your Apple iPhone 8 or Apple iPhone 8+ to your 2018 Mercedes-Benz Bluetooth®, do the following:

  1. On your phone, tap the settings application, select Bluetooth®, and make sure the Bluetooth® radio is on. You’ll know it’s on if the switch is green and there is a Bluetooth® logo in the corner of your screen by the battery indicator.
  2. You may need to tap “Allow New Connections” or “Allow New Devices” which will put your phone into discovery mode. You will know your phone is in discovery mode when you see “Now discoverable as [your iphone].” beneath the Bluetooth switch.
  3. In your 2018 Mercedes-Benz, press the phone button on the steering wheel or center console.
  4. Using the COMAND® wheel or touchpad, select Connect Device.
  5. Using the COMAND® wheel or touchpad, select Search for Phones, followed by Start Search. Your 2018 Mercedes-Benz is now searching for Bluetooth® enabled phones or devices.
  6. Once the system is done searching, select your Apple iPhone 8, or Apple iPhone 8+ from the menu using the COMAND® wheel or touchpad.
  7. You may be aksed to enter a passcode on your iPhone 8 generated by your 2018 Mercedes-Benz. Once the passcodes match, tap Pair on your Apple iPhone 8 or Apple iPhone 8+.

It’s as easy as that! Once your Apple iPhone 8 is connected to your 2018 Mercedes-Benz through Bluetooth® you’ll be able to dictate text messages, make and receive calls, and even stream audio wirelessly. The difference between using Bluetooth® and CarPlay is that you wont use the COMAND® system to select these options.

Our selection of 2018 Mercedes-Benz vehicles feature Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth®, but we think it looks especially great on the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which gives drivers dual 12.3″ screens for navigation and entertainment selection.
